ViKING MPOS
ViKING MPOS is a cloud-based mobile POS solution that’s ideal for, for example:
- Occasional sales stands outside your store (think pop-up stores, sidewalk sales, flash sales, delicatessen, flowers, fireworks, party hats, Christmas trees – anything, really …)
- Campaign or product demo stands inside your store
- Simply to give your sales staff the freedom to move around and be able to use POS features and receive payment for articles wherever they need it, which can be helpful in many scenarios, including dialog-based sales in the beauty or DIY industries, click-and-collect, upselling at the shelves, queue busting, etc.
ViKING MPOS works through a ViKING MPOS app on standard Android mobile devices. The app can provide any POS feature that a regular, stationary Fiftytwo POS can offer. This means that:
- Your POSs are no longer tied to stationary hardware terminals.
- Your shop assistants can move around freely and complete sales anywhere, also outside of stores, because your mobile POSs connect to the POS system via secure 4G/5G mobile connections.
- If required, you can use your mobile POSs alongside existing stationary POSs in any combination that suits your organization’s needs best.
ViKING MPOS has an easy-to-use shop assistant interface, and you can use a variety of payment solutions.
From an administrator’s perspective, you can easily manage your MPOS solution’s devices and apps through a standard MDM (Mobile Device Management) solution.
Benefits of a cloud-based MPOS solution
Requirements
ViKING MPOS works on Android 10 or newer (view Android version history).
The Android device that you use with ViKING MPOS must support NFC (Near-Field Communication, a set of communication protocols that enables communication between two devices over a distance of four cm or less) and have an NFC card reader in order to handle card payment.
Tested Android devices
ViKING MPOS in principle runs on any Android device that lives up to the version and NFC requirements, but Fiftytwo has successfully tested that ViKING MPOS works on the following Android devices:
- unitech PA768 (recommended)
- unitech EA630
- Point Mobile PM45
- Point Mobile PM85
- Zebra TC52
- Zebra TC57
- ELO M50 (device’s barcode scanner not supported)
The tested devices are all sturdy and rugged enterprise-scale devices for use in a busy professional environment, and most of them have built-in barcode scanners that you can use with MPOS.
Fiftytwo generally recommends that you use a device with a built-in barcode scanner, but you can also use a device’s camera for scanning barcodes.
Payment integration
The ViKING MPOS app uses an integration to an external payment provider (such as Softpay, MobilePay, or similar) to receive payments.
ViKING MPOS automatically opens the preferred payment provider’s app on the Android device when the shop assistant is ready to receive payment, and closes it again when payment is completed.
For this to work, the Android device needs access to one or more payment gateways as specified by the payment provider in question.
If you’re going to use Softpay on your MPOS solution, go to https://developer.softpay.io/softpay/devices.html (requires Softpay login) and verify that your devices meet Softpay’s minimum requirements. The Softpay webpage also contains a positive list of supported devices, a list of unsupported devices, and useful advice about good security practices.
Setup
Typically, a Fiftytwo consultant sets up and manages ViKING MPOS for you.
Other organizations get ViKING MPOS installation packages and set up their MPOS solution themselves on their ViKING store services through the following procedures:
